Cuban President Raul Castro presided over the main event on International Workers” Day held at Havana”s Revolution Square on Thursday and attended by more than one million people.
Government leaders, historic figures, intellectuals, the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba and union leaders from other countries were invited to watch the parade at the tribune, built at the foot of the monument to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti.
The parade was opened by a group of healthcare workers, some 50,000 of whom are rendering their collaboration in 67 countries.
The healthcare professionals were accompanied by students and professors from the Latin American Medical School.
More than 1,700 workers and union leaders from 78 countries who traveled to Cuba to support the Revolution and the process of social and economic transformations under way also participated in the event.
