A British tourist has relived the terrifying moment she was savaged by monkeys in Thailand – while trying to conquer her lifelong fear of apes.
Dee Darwell, 56, blacked out when one crab-eating Macaque after another sunk its teeth into her, hanging off her body. As blood spurted from a gash in her arm, other sunseekers fled in panic. She says she only survived the attack, on Monkey Island, near Phuket, after local fishermen saved her.
Dee Darwell, recovering at home in Peterborough, Cambs, said: “I thought, ‘This is it, I’m going to die, I’m going to be savaged.”
